Olivia Eberwein, from Kremmen in Germany, has been awarded a 2024 Nuffield International scholarship supported by a coalition of German investors to study to what extent can global arable farming strategies with a focus on new crops and innovative tillage approaches help Germany adapt to global change.

Olivia aims to identify solutions for farmers and agricultural businesses to adapt their arable farming strategies and business orientations to operate sustainably in a complex global environment. The integration of more sustainable cultivation methods and environmentally friendly technologies can improve resource efficiency, adapting to climate change and contributing to the development of new business models.

Olivia works as the farm manager in a diverse company that focuses on conventional agriculture, biogas production, cultivation of specialty crops such as asparagus and blueberries and direct marketing via a farm shop, restaurant and the food retail sector. Olivia oversees 900 hectares of cultivated area which grows cereals, rapeseed, sunflowers, potatoes and corn. In addition, she manages 500 hectares of organic grassland farming.

Olivia holds a Master of Science in Agricultural Sciences, has been a working group member and board member for the Young German Agricultural Society, a board member for Oberhavel District Farmers' Association and a German Rotary Youth Ambassador in Chile. She is driven by her passion for agriculture and looks forward to helping advance agricultural businesses and serve as a role model for others.
