Nuffield Brazil Releases Vanessa Chiamulera's Global ESG Report: Practical Insights for the Future of Farming

Nuffield Brazil is pleased to announce the publication of "Practical Sustainability: Global Insights from the Field," authored by Vanessa Chiamulera, Nuffield Scholar 2021. This research was supported by Bayer.

Over a 12-week period, Vanessa conducted field visits, interviews and technical analyses across nine countries. Her goal was to understand how different agricultural regions implement sustainability practices aligned with ESG, both in small-scale and large-scale production systems.

The report highlights that the most effective sustainability models combine:

Social technologies -- processes, training, governance, cooperatives

Machine technologies -- automation, sensors, biodigesters, traceability

Data-driven decision-making

Local adaptation of global principles

A central finding is that sustainability is not a separate initiative inside the farm but a management philosophy that improves efficiency, reduces risk, strengthens team engagement and supports long-term resilience.

Vanessa concludes that Brazil is uniquely positioned to build its own ESG model -- one that reflects its diversity, scale and innovation capacity -- by integrating social practices, technology and governance into everyday rural management.
